My Princes.

Today is the last day of term at our little school and they were supposed to be celebrating with a Jubilee garden party and even though we've had the most glorious warm sunshiney days recently today it is raining .... typical!

All the pupils were told that they had to dress up as Royalty and if they couldn't manage that they at least had to wear a crown. Lots of people have gone out and bought specific fancy dress outfits of knights, royal guards and princesses. Personally I didn't see the need , it's not as if a guards outfit would really get worn again, well not in this house anyway.

So I bought a couple of masks and crowns off a website which just happened to have free delivery and used outfits we already have so the boys could go as a casual Prince William and a soldier Prince Harry. Personally I think for £4 they look rather spiffing don't you?

Getting There.

Firstly can I just say a huge thank you for all you lovely comments and e-mails checking that I'm okay... they all brought a big smile to my face. Things are definitely getting a bit better, touch wood, no more major meltdowns in Ikea car park or floodgates opening when Hub asked me what type of bread I wanted in Sainsbury's. In fact this has been a week with no tears.... lots of germs and bugs but no tears, not from me anyway.

Something that did make me smile last week was on one of those extremely rare at the minute days of sunshine when I was washing up. I had the back door open ,the dogs were sprawled out on the yard and that's when I heard it, the tiny twittering of a bird. I'm not sure what kind of bird it was but there amongst the silence was this gorgeous little tune being trilled out as if it were just for me.

You might think that there is nothing unusual in that, a bird singing , but here where we live you don't get birdsong very often. You might get the odd caw from a crow and plenty of screeching from seagulls but not actual birdsong, where we live it's just too built up and there isn't enough greenery. Further down the road there are the parks and lots of birds but nothing beside our house.

I can remember when I was younger, when I still lived at home and every morning and every night Mr Blackbird would perch on the rooftop opposite and sing his little heart out for what seemed like hours and my mam would be like ' that bloody bird' . It makes me laugh just thinking about it, especially as how my parents love birds and spend hours in their conservatory watching them on the dozens of bird feeders they have spread around the garden.

As I'm typing this now it's silent if you ignore the cars going past looking for car parking spaces as close to the hospital as they can get and the dogs barking at someone or something in the back lane.

Don't get me wrong I do like the silence but I love birdsong even better .

Letting Go

If you could see me now you would probably laugh, sitting here with tears running down my face as I've just said bye to something that was part of my life for a few years.

I didn't have much choice really about letting it go as I felt like it had been taken from me ,it was no longer mine.

Something I did to help someone sort of backfired and the floodgates opened . I was no longer free to say what I wanted.

I'm not even sure if being here will make it feel better but I'm going to give it a try.... a slow start is better than no start at all.... isn't it?
